Elemental Server support ends on 31 December 2026.
AWS Elemental Server and Conductor File, the on-premises transcoders, reach end of support on that date, according to AWS. If your masters live in cloud storage, or can, silken takes over the file transcoding one workflow at a time, with your current system as the fallback until each one passes.

A good fit for file work in the cloud. Not for everything.
Elemental Server transcodes on your own hardware; silken reads masters from cloud object storage. That decides the fit more than the deadline does.
Fits well
- Your masters are already in cloud object storage, or you are moving them there anyway.
- File-based work: catalogue, archive, local titles and recordings turned into viewing copies.
- You would rather stop owning, racking and patching transcoding hardware.
Fits less well
- Transcoding has to stay inside your building, or run without internet access.
- Sources are read from local disks, a SAN or SDI rather than object storage.
- Live channels: those are a separate service, scoped with our team.
Dates from the AWS Elemental Server FAQ. AWS Elemental MediaConvert, the cloud service, is not ending; teams on it can read Leaving MediaConvert.
Four steps, with the old system running.
A migration is a project with our team, not a ticket, and nothing is switched off until the new outputs pass.
- 01Map your profiles
Send your Elemental Server profiles and a few sources. Our team maps each profile to silken settings with you and shows what runs today.
- 02Put the masters where silken can read them
S3 through a read-only role you grant, or any of Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Google Cloud Storage, Backblaze B2, DigitalOcean Spaces or Wasabi through presigned URLs.
- 03Check the outputs
Single files are written back to your storage; HLS ladders are held for you to collect. Each is checked against what your appliance makes today.
- 04Switch one workflow at a time
Your current system stays the fallback until each workflow passes the checks you set.

It fits when your masters are in, or can be copied to, cloud object storage silken can read. It fits less well when transcoding has to stay inside your building, reads from local disks or SDI, or runs without internet access.
Can you import our Elemental Server profiles?
Not as files. Our team maps each profile to silken settings with you in the pilot, and the outputs are checked against your current ones before you switch a workflow.
