Every title on every box, older ones included.

From the master you already have, silken makes the version every box can play: SDR viewing copies for newer players and the older HD boxes in your device base. It plugs in behind your TV platform, so there is nothing to replace.

The business case

What changes for your business.

  1. Every subscriber can watch what you paid for

A standard version of every HDR title for the HD boxes still in your base, signed off on your own oldest box.

When it matters UHD catalogue growth with HD boxes still in service.

  2. HDR, 4K and advanced colour, done right

HDR masters produce SDR viewing copies with per-title tone controls, including for playback on new boxes.

When it matters A UHD launch; a new box generation.

  3. Launches and migrations in bulk

Catalogue launches, platform moves and backlogs processed with capacity planned for your workload and no hardware to add.

When it matters A platform migration; Elemental Server end of support on 31 December 2026.

Your device base

Two generations of boxes, one job per title.

Your base holds boxes from several procurement cycles. One job writes your house profile for each of them, so a new title reaches the oldest HD box and the newest 4K box on the same day.

HDR to SDR for older boxes

Legacy HD boxes
The SDR H.264 tier for the boxes you still support, made from the HDR master, with the SDR look set and signed off by your engineer on your oldest box.
4K boxes and smart TVs
HDR10 and HLG versions for HDR screens, with SDR versions for other players in the same HLS ladder. HDR versions use HEVC Main10 and HEVC pricing.
Multiscreen apps
The app ladder for phones, tablets and browsers, to your house profile.
Your platform
Renditions land in your origin storage for your packager, CAS/DRM and middleware. No new CDN, no new CAS.

Availability follows your account’s live job options and qualified worker capabilities.

What runs through it

VOD content preparation, every day.

Mezzanine files arrive continuously. Each kind keeps its own recipe, saved once and sent with every job.

  1. 01
    Catalogue and box sets

Studio and distributor mezzanine files prepared on arrival into every rendition of your house profile.

  2. 02
    Local titles

Your own productions and local acquisitions, through the same recipe as the studio catalogue.

  3. 03
    Live-to-VOD archive

Programmes your headend has recorded, turned into catalogue renditions when they move into the VOD store.

  4. 04
    Library bursts

A new codec, a platform migration or a catalogue launch re-processes the library as a planned project, priced per title.

Replacing appliance encoders

Retire the encoder racks, keep the platform.

AWS Elemental Server and Conductor File reach end of support on 31 December 2026. VOD transcoding can move to silken while the rest of the TV platform stays exactly as it is.

Live channels

  • VOD file work moves off the appliances. VOD transcoding runs as API jobs into your storage instead of on encoder hardware due for renewal.
  • Your platform stays. Headend, middleware, CAS/DRM, CDN and the boxes in homes are unchanged; outputs follow the folder layout and naming your platform expects.
  • Live as a premium service. Linear channels are scoped separately with our team when you are ready.

Questions

Can one job serve old and new set-top boxes?

Use SDR H.264 renditions for legacy HD boxes and SDR playback on newer boxes. HEVC SDR file recipes depend on live worker qualification; HEVC HDR ladders are not currently offered.

Does silken replace our VOD encoders?

For VOD file work, yes: catalogue, local titles and live-to-VOD archive are prepared by API into your own storage, which matters if your Elemental Server support ends on 31 December 2026. Live channels are a premium service scoped with sales.

Does it work with our packager, CAS/DRM and middleware?

Yes. Renditions land in your origin storage under the layout and naming your packager and middleware expect, agreed in the pilot; CAS and DRM stay with your vendor.

Free test on your files

Send us your hardest files.

Send us 10-20 titles (catalogue, local productions and 4K HDR) with your box profiles. We agree the results date after engineering confirms capacity. You play them on your own new and old boxes and see the picture, the turnaround, the failures and the cost per title. Free within the standard scope.
